Roger and Amanda Riggins - 2024 Friends of Go-Hawk Wrestling

By Eric Whitcome 01/18/2024, 10:30pm CST

Riggins Given Award

The Waverly Area Wrestling Club’s Friends of Go-Hawk Wrestling Award is given each year to an individual, family, group, or business that has shown extraordinary leadership, dedication, sacrifice and support of the Waverly Shell Rock Rock Wrestling Program and Waverly Area Wrestling Club. This year’s recipient is Roger and Amanda Riggins.

In 2008 Roger and Ben McDonald attended a meeting where then Head Coach Rick Caldwell talked about the club and discussed some of the organizational challenges and barriers that faced the club. From that meeting, a new website and a web administrator position was created….to be followed with years of commitment and dedication to Go-Hawk Wrestling.

Roger has served many roles for the Waverly Area Wrestling Club, most recently he served as the president of the club and the Director of Super Pee Wee. During his time of presidency WSR’s program reached new heights in revenue, club involvement has almost doubled to 200 members, and our girls wrestling program was born. For those who have participated or been a spectator at any WSR tournament, AAU Districts, SPW State Tournament or the AAU State Tournament you have been a part of a tournament that Roger has had a hand in organizing and running. His knowledge of TrackWrestling has had a positive impact on 1000’s of wrestlers and their families.

Amanda has officially served or voluntarily covered basically every position and role in our club. Amanda has served as Volunteer Coordinator, Concessions Coordinator, hospitality Coordinator, and Treasurer. Amanda’s willingness to “get it done” has made her service to Go-Hawk Wrestling nothing short of invaluable. Amanda still serves as our financial bookkeeper.

One of the principals of Go-Hawk Wrestling is when you leave the program to leave it in a better place than you found it. Roger and Amanda’s willingness to sacrifice their time and energy to Go-Hawk Wrestling has left Go-Hawk Wrestling in a better place!

Please stand and give a round of applause to Roger and Amanda Riggins, our 2024 Friend of Go-Hawk Wrestling!
